Port and Pastel De Nata; Portugal! SINTRA

Sintra (Day trip from Porto)

We arrived into the beautiful train station in Sintra after taking a 40 minute train ride from Lisbon. Tiles were used to decorate the building and this was a lovely place to start our day in the fairytale like city.

We made our way up to Pena castle – we chose to walk instead of catching the bus. The walk was lovely and scenic however very steep and took around 45 minutes to an hour to get to the top.

The park of Pena castle is lovely and relaxing and filled with beautiful lakes, monuments, plants and trees. We found a lovely place to sit and have our packed lunch, before visiting the castle.

Our first glimpse of the castle from below was breathtaking. The castle is just like you would see in a fairytale, and the inside is furnished and decorated very nicely. Walking through – you can imagine exactly how the King used to live.

There were many view points from different terraces and areas of the castle, looking over the city and beyond.

The interior of the palace was decorated beautifully, with traditional furnishings and wall art.

We were very impressed with our visit to Sintra and found the castle to be very impressive.
