Porto (15th May - 19th May)
We
arrived into Porto by train, into the beautiful Sao Bento station –
well known for its beautifully painted walls and exterior.
We made
a trip down the road from our hotel to the Bolhao area and found the
famous Porto dish 'Franceschina'. We were very impressed with the
dish – various types of meat sandwiched between two thick slices of
white bread, encased in melted cheese and then covered in a spicy
beer stock and baked. This is definitely something you need to try,
but not something you could have everyday!
We made
our way over the Ponte Luiz I bridge and enjoyed the beautiful walk along the river Duoro.
We passed many port cellars along the river and we chose to visit Taylors as we read good views online and wanted to do some Port tasting while in Porto.

Taylor's Cellar
We wandered through the beautiful stone walled streets and found the lovely place with manicured gardens and a lovely seating area where we were given port to taste. We took a tour through the cellar and then had another two ports to taste in the garden area which was beautiful.

After
visiting the port cellar, we walked through the Ribiera area which
was very vibrant and full of people enjoying the beautiful warm area.
We took
a free walking tour and spotted some of the main sights on the way.
We wandered through the Romantic gardens and the Crystal Palace
gardens which were both beautiful, had some lovely views of the river
and well worth the walk up hill for!
Porto
was full of character, extremely picturesque and a great place to
spend a few days.
