Marrakech (23rd - 25th April)
We
arrived into Marrakech on a beautiful warm day at 9.00am. We
wandered the main square which at this time was very quiet, only
orange juice sellers and a few women offering henna tattoos.
We had a
beautiful freshly squeezed orange juice for only 4 Dirhams ($0.53AUD) and
even got to go behind the scenes where the magic is made!
There
are many beautiful shops selling spices, tea, souvenirs and clothing,
and many shop keepers had tortoises and chameleons as pets! We even
got to hold a chameleon!
Many people are selling food/fruit/veg and tagines in the streets and in the middle of the souks, we saw beautifully stacked olives, fresh mint, tagines ready to be cooked and beautiful rotisserie spiced chickens.

Tagines prepared and ready to be taken to be slow cooked

Pre Prepared Moroccan tea - mint ready for hot, sweet tea to be poured over it
The
world famous pop up outdoor eateries in the main square are extremely
popular and good value. We had tagines, grilled meats and cous cous
here, and you are always given bread and a spiced tomato puree dip
with your meal.
The square at sunset was extremely vibrant and exciting with many entertainers and sellers out and about. It was nice watching from above on the warm, balmy evenings.
