Hangzhou (6th - 8th March)
We arrived into Hangzhou to rainy weather, however this didn't stop us from wandering
around the beautiful, almost European looking streets.
Many touristy
shops and restaurants are around the hotel and it was nice sauntering
and taking everything in.
We tried the famous 'Dragon Beard' sweet, that
is everywhere in China! I had wanted to try it for quite some time,
however was not quite sure what it was. This delicious fibrous,
sweet, white candy floss like sweet is filled with peanuts and is
absolutely amazing!! At only 10 Yuan ($2AUD) for 10 small sweets –
I would definitely recommend this!
We made our way out, with plans to
see the famous West Lake. It was a pleasant 20 minute
walk down a straight road – most of which was filled with souvenirs
and nick nacks. When we arrived, we were surprised with the beautiful
gardens surrounding the lake and how lush and green they were.
Well
kept and very clean – we wandered through the beautifully lined
paths and took in the fresh air.
There were many people were out on a Friday
enjoying the spot. People were fishing in the lake, families were
out walking around and the elderly were gathering around various
spots playing music, singing and dancing. One group in particular
were waltzing in pairs and it was a really beautiful sight.
Hangzhou and its West Lake were a highlight of our trip in China. This wasn't a city we were originally going to visit, however our departing flight out of China left from here. We are pleased we visited this beautiful city, and it was a lovely place to finish our three weeks in China.
