The Peak District; Matlock and Bakewell

Derbyshire

Matlock

We stayed in Matlock Bath while visiting the Derbyshire area and enjoyed the peaceful little town and its beautiful scenery. The Derwent river ran right through the town.

A day trip into Bakewell was very enjoyable, wandering along the small river and through the beautiful little town.

We had to try a Bakewell tart while in Bakewell!!

The lovely little river ran through the town, and attracted many greedy geese!

The town of Bakewell was very scenic and was surrounded by beautiful rolling hills and quaint cottages.

Mae morfil o amser; WALES

WALES

We had some amazing weather on our short stay in Wales. While here, we visited The Cardigan Coast; Aberystwyth and Abaereron – two lovely little seaside towns.

Abaereron was first with its choppy sea and colourfully painted sea houses.

 The Marina

 Beautiful and brightly painted building

A charming little river ran into the sea, passing some lovely homes along the way.

The main town was filled with lovely little gift shops, cafe's and hotel's.  The brightly painted homes continued through the main town and were complimented by the colourful buntings which lined the streets.

 The Town Centre

Aberystwyth was a much larger city, however still had a lot of charm and a beautiful promenade to walk along and take in the sights and sea air.

We wandered around Aberystwyth castle which had some beautiful views of the town and some very old ruins.

Driving between towns was an absolute pleasure and the rolling hills were very impressive.

FULL ENGLISH; Ales, Dales and Blackpool rock! YORKSHIRE

York, Thornton Le Dale and The Dales

York

We stayed in Thornton Le Dale for three nights while in Yorkshire and began the trip with a day trip to York. We found this city to be full of character and beautiful, classical buildings. You could spend hours in this city just wandering the lovely shops and lovely streets.

We passed the River Ouse and stopped for an Earl Grey tea!

We sauntered down the Shambles, admiring the ancient buildings and cobblestone street.

We visited the York Minster, only from the outside unfortunately but were still able to appreciate the beautiful structure.

Thornton Le Dale

Thornton Le Dale was a beautiful little town, with small canals running past small cottages and through the town.

We took a walk down the Canal which lead us to a beautiful green field, filled with sheep and with amazing views.

The Dales

We took a day trip out to the Dales, as it had to be done while in Yorkshire! The drive was a pleasant one, with beautiful rolling hills in every direction.

We stopped in a lovely quaint town – Kettlewell and enjoyed the lovely scenery here.

We drove a little further through the Dales, and stopped at Aysgarth Falls, where three lovely waterfalls – each at different levels are. This made for a lovely walk, and a nice place to relax.

The beach looked lovely on the warm day we had!

The Blackpool Tower stands at 500 feet high and really stands out from anywhere you are in the city.

Fish and Chips at the beach just had to be done! It was a perfect night for it too!

We just had to have Blackpool Rock while we were in Blackpool!!

We had a day at the seaside when we visited Whitby and Scarborough. The sun came out and made for a lovely day at the two popular tourist towns.

We wandered around the Marina and down the pier at Whitby.

The big stretch of beach at Whitby went on forever and had a lovely backdrop of rolling hills.

We took a 30 minute boat ride out to sea, and heard all about Captain Cook and his venture from Whitby around the world including Australia! Our boat was a replica of the boat Captain Cook used, however was half the size.

Next was the seaside town of Scarborough. We wandered down the promenade, which was bustling with families enjoying the weekend.

We stopped by the fair and the Ferris wheel looked lovely against the bright blue sunny sky!

We wandered back through the main town, full of lovely shops. We even spotted a chocolate kebab!

 Scarborough's main shopping street

Chocolate Shwarma!

The Seahouses is a great place to take a boat trip to the Farne Islands.  Unfortunately we just missed the last boat trip, however still had a nice wander around and an ice cream!
